Mainframe Skills Jumpstart

Why take this course?

After completing this course, you will be able to
  • set up an efficient workspace within TSO/ISPF
  • quickly navigate and access TSO/ISPF features, tools and interfaces
  • use standard TSO/ISPF edit/browse commands to code, submit, and review JCL execution.
  • find, diagnose and correct syntax errors.
  • calculate how much space is required to allocate your files.
  • calculate efficient block size and understand how it affects space allocation and I/O services.
  • control the execution of a job by providing parameters at the job level and step level.
  • request basic processing options from the Job Entry Sub-system.

This is a bootstrap course which integrates the essentials of TSO/ISPF with core JCL topics. We combined the navigation, browsing and editing skills of TSO/ISPF with that of analyzing, coding, testing and debugging the JCL (Job Control Language) scripting language used in IBM mainframe servers.

Hands-on workshops get you immediately applying navigation and editing skills to gain command of important JCL and mainframe environment concepts.

Who should attend?

All levels of programmers, analysts, testers and systems analysts who author, use, and/or support usage of MVS JCL. This includes current MVS JCL users who desire formalization of their skills in this area.
